SONGWRITING PROJECT

Haliburton Adult Education & Training Centre

February - May, 2011

Project Coordinator: Jen Morgan Anderson
Teacher: Greg Shantz
Artists: Stan Russell, Lauren McInnes, Carl Dixon

English and music students at the Haliburton Adult Education & Training Centre, along with teacher Greg Shantz, participated in an innovative arts-integrated project over several months this winter and spring. The school engaged Haliburton musician Stan Russell to provide weekly workshops on songwriting and music performance. Vocal coach Lauren McInnes and volunteer Carl Dixon also assisted the students with their vocal techniqes.

The students (and teacher) formed a band called the Haliburton Collection, and put on a monthly performance at McKecks Restaurant in Haliburton. Their most recent performance was held on May 4th. The theme for the concert was "summertime," and the band played a variety of cover and original songs related to summer. Check out the videos below to see the incredible talent displayed by these young musicians. And don't forget to ask for their autographs now before they become famous rock stars!
