Although our Port Carling camps were completely full, unfortunately we did not receive enough registrations to run our new Gravenhurst camps in August. Please let us know if you would be interested in summer camps in Gravenhurst for next summer.
The 2010 Kaleidoscope Summer Camps were divided into two sessions: Camp I focused on Drama and Art, while Camp II focused on Music and Art. Wing Chow was the music and drama instructor; Krysia Bower was the art instructor. The Festival's Art and Aboriginal Education Coordinator, Jen Morgan Anderson, was the camp coordinator and assistant instructor. High school volunteer Megan assisted with supervision. Each week also had a session with a special guest artist.
The first week of Kaleidoscope's summer camp had 25 children registered in the morning, and 14 registered in the afternoon or all day. The morning group worked towards two different performances: "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" for the younger group (ages 4 - 6), and "The Return of the Glass Slipper" for the older group (ages 7 - 10). The smaller afternoon group worked on the "Glass Slipper" play.
The children worked with Wing to learn the plays, including songs and dances. They worked with Krysia and Jen to create backdrops, props and costumes for the plays. Professional theatre artist Stevie Jay was the week's special guest, leading the children in drama and improv games.
The final day of the camp took place at the Rosseau Club House at Cleveland's House. After set up and a dress rehearsal, parents were invited to watch their children perform the plays that they had worked so hard on all week.

The second week of the camp had about 22 children registered in the morning, and 12 registered in the afternoon or all day.
Wing lead the children in musical games, creative movement, and composition. They used percussion instruments and tonechimes to learn about rhythm, melody and music notation.
Krysia provided a variety of visual art activities, including collage, drawing, painting, woodblock printing and wooden scrap sculpture. Special guest Nancy Gray Ogle offered a landscape painting workshop, where each child got to create a painting on their own canvas.
