The Muskoka Children's Choir is an experience-based program which provides singing and theatre experience and offers an introduction to elemental music skills and knowledge based on the Zoltan Kodaly approach to music education. The choir is for children from ages 5 to 12 who wish to explore music through a singing approach.
The choral program can help children establish a firm foundation of basic singing skills, musicianship skills and music literacy for their further music study. In addition, children will be introduced to simple percussion instruments and tone chimes.
During rehearsals, children are nurtured in the love of music. The basis of the curriculum is formed by folk songs, musicals and art music from various styles and periods. Musical knowledge, skills, literacy and appreciation will develop through the choir's activities. In addition to gaining singing skills and performance experience, children can also gain confidence, social skills, team spirit, friendship and discipline.
